HybridLearning and Learning Gains

Through this proposal, I sought to merge my work in online education with learning analytics and research.

The scope of this project was to design a research proposal for future analytical study. I chose to study the relationship between hybrid learning and actual learning gains. My work in online education, as well as my experience as a hybrid learner in the LDT program led me to hypothesize that hybrid learners experienced lower average learning gains than students who were fully in-person. The research questions I proposed were the following:
  • In a hybrid classroom environment, do learners who attend class in-person exhibit greater learning gains than those who attend online?
  • Do learners who attended class both in-person and online exhibit greater learning gains than those who attended class only in-person or only online
  • Are learners feelings towards learning online v. in-person predictive of their in-class performance?
  • I scoped out the methodology I used, limitations of the study, and possible findings of this study. Over the next year, I plan to turn this proposal into an actual study and discover if my hypotheses match actual findings.
